Progress
I also slapped some colour on just to see what it would look like. [NOTE: I spent about 30 seconds putting the colour on so it is not neat, this was just for me to see what the model looked like in colour]
So today I drew/got together my super rough thumbnails and put them into premiere to make sure that my story was flowing right.
This was the first version which was exactly as I had drawn it after the story workshop. After looking at it I went back and edited the first half to change the pacing and cut some unnecessary scenes.
This is the current version, the timing is a bit all over the place and at this stage im sure some of those drawings are completely incomprehensible but its helping me to plan my story. Now I'm going to draw up some proper storyboards, and add in a few boards that I think are missing, before editing it again and getting some feedback to make sure my story is reading as I want it to.
I also had a quick go at doing my character's face in mudbox. I have found that if I start sculpting without really having a plan my character's tend to come out semi realistic which isn't really the style I wanted to go for. I'm going to go back and properly draw out my character's head then remodel it on Friday.

So as we only have 10 weeks left (terrifying) for our project I have revised my schedule. I had fallen behind where I wanted to be quite a bit due to Going Live but now that I can fully focus on this project hopefully I can get myself back on track.
This is where I'm at right now and this is a link to the Google spreadsheet

It seems like I have a lot of things to do this week but most of them are already started and/or nearly done.
So today I also finished my rough thumbnails (I'm going to put them into premiere tomorrow and see if I need to add any shots/re-arrange anything before I draw them up into storyboards) and I also took another look at my character design. My plan was to sculpt the character in zbrush unfortunately the uni only has 2 zbrush licences and one of them is in a computer that isn't working so I ended up using mudbox instead. The character is still pretty rough right now especially the face but with a few more days work I should manage to get it to where I want it.

Now that we are in the final stretch of Going Live its probably time to talk about my final project again.
Here is my character for my final animation. (The suit won't be grey in the final film that was just to help me work out the sections.)
I'm still thumbnailing the exact story (and we have another storytelling class that will hopefully help me completely lock it down) so in the meantime I have been getting on with my character.

I have just started modelling the body (I find it easier to sculpt faces in 3D rather than working them out in 2D hence the lack of detail there)
Phil suggested we try photogrammetry to help model the toys for our animation. Photogrammetry is a technique where you take a series of photos around an object from different angles and use the data from those photos to create a 3D model. Earlier in the week Stathis used this technique to get a model of He-Man's head so the rest of us decided to give it a go with the troll dolls Andrea bought.
Rob gave us a quick tutorial and helped us set up the camera and the troll.
We then took pictures all around the troll at three different angles (the software can only use 70 pictures but its better to take more rather than less).
We took two sets of photos: one of just the troll's head and one of the entire troll.
And these are the results we got. Obviously if we were to use these in our project we would need to retopologize them but I'm pretty happy with the results. Whether we actually use these models or we just keep them as a reference it was a really useful (and fun) technique to learn.
This week we have been getting on with modelling the assets for Going Live. I was in charge of making the model sheet for the Sylvanian family rabbit and with modelling the robot.
The next stage is going to be rigging and pre vis which I am very excited about.
This is the rabbit model sheet, with additional reference images down the side.
And here is a quick render of the robot model (with no proper textures).

Yay the modelling is finished! I am pretty happy with how she turned out I think. I wish I had had more time to look into how to make hair or to experiment with ncloth but thats maybe something I can try over the Christmas break. There are a few areas, around the wrists for example, where my topology could be a lot better and thats something I'm going to pay a lot more attention to next time.
I have also UV mapped my character ready for texturing and/or and mudbox sculpting I want to do.
So I think next I'm going to rig her, as I'm not very confident with rigging so it will take a while, then I can move on to texturing.
So first things first I restarted the head. I really wasn't happy with how the first attempt was progressing. Unfortunately with the second attempt I kept forgetting to screenshot so I only have a few progress shots.
And I have started putting it all together
Still to do: Boots, hair, hood. Then I'm onto UV mapping and texturing. I'm aiming to have her modelled and textured by the presentation, if I have time I would also like a simple rig on her but we will see how long texturing takes me.
So I have started trying to model my character in 3D. I think its going ok so far but it might just be too early to tell. I have been using some digital tutors tutorials as well the the class tutorials to help me with the modelling.
I'm not very happy with the head at this stage, I'm thinking about restarting it but I will keep working on it and seeing if I can improve it for a little longer.

Our tutorial this week was focused on 3D modelling. I have already done some modelling in my undergrad but mostly environments, not much organic modelling so it was good to get a refresher. Its going to help when I start modelling my own character soon.
We started out by looking at the main body of the character.
I went on to do the lower body too and started on the shoe but I didn't get very far with that.
Then we moved on to the bit I'm bad at - modelling the face. We haven't quite finished it yet we are using the start of next weeks class to do the final parts.
