Maya classes are back! We have started this term with some animation which is great. The first class was looking at a basic walk cycle. This is the final result (if the video is working properly now?):
Learning a bit more about the graph editor was very useful too as I feel like I always neglect it somewhat when I animate. I really enjoyed getting back into animation after not doing much of it last term. This semester will be fairly animation heavy which is good. I'm going to try and do some 11 second clubs alongside Going Live and developing my final project if I have time.
I realise I have put a lot of my own work on this blog but I haven't really been putting up any of my inspirations.
Its the aesthetic of this film that I find particularly inspiring. I really like the atmosphere of the whole piece too. The painted look of the environments and props are sort of similar to the look I would like to achieve for my own project. Watching this short has given me a lot more inspiration regarding how far I can push the look of my film, As I continue developing the ideas for my film I will also do some texturing tests, hopefully being able to see what my final film could look like will help me to decide what I want to show, if that makes sense.
We're back! So we started this semester by getting the brief for our Going Live project from Axis animation. The brief is to take the audio from a something like the Jeremy Kyle show and create an animation with it. We had our first group meeting about the project today to brainstorm initial ideas. We are going to develop these for a week before sending a few ideas off to Axis to see what they think.
So its finally done! I don't know what went wrong with the render but I was changing settings for (no joke) about 5 hours and I could not get it to work properly.
And here is a comparison of the final character with my drawing.

I'm not very experienced with texturing so these are going to be pretty basic. I put my basic model into mudbox and added any alterations I wanted by sculpting before texturing in the paint layer. They turned out ok I think though I would have liked a few more days to experiment a bit more with them.
Now that my character is all modelled I have started rigging. Its a pretty basic rig to be honest but it does what it needs to do for this project. While doing the rig I have found a couple of areas on the model I would change or do differently if I were to do the project again so its been a good learning experience.
UPDATE: I have broken my rig, not sure how, But the model is already posed so I will finish everything else first and go back and fix it if I have time.
Yay the modelling is finished! I am pretty happy with how she turned out I think. I wish I had had more time to look into how to make hair or to experiment with ncloth but thats maybe something I can try over the Christmas break. There are a few areas, around the wrists for example, where my topology could be a lot better and thats something I'm going to pay a lot more attention to next time.
I have also UV mapped my character ready for texturing and/or and mudbox sculpting I want to do.
So I think next I'm going to rig her, as I'm not very confident with rigging so it will take a while, then I can move on to texturing.
